Bio-Shield 50B™ delivers 50 billion live microbials per serving to support daily digestive and immune health in horses. Formulated with two powerful strains of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae yeast (S. cerevisiae CNCM I-1077 and S. boulardii CNCM I-1079), it helps support healthy digestion throughout the stomach, foregut, and hindgut.

This advanced formula also promotes immune function by supporting the horse’s natural defenses through the lymphatic system, helping maintain overall health and performance.

Prebiotics (Agrimos) – Ingredients like MOS & beta-glucans (Agrimos) feed beneficial gut bacteria. Help in the production of short-chain fatty acids, which are imperative for the gut barrier integrity. Beta-glucans help in the immune cells by increasing the cytotoxic activity – helps combat harmful cells.

Probiotics (S. cerevisiae CNCM I-1077, S. boulardii CNCM I-1079, B. subtilis & B. licheniformis) These are live microorganisms, including both beneficial yeast and bacteria, that support a healthy and balanced gut microbiome. These microbes help maintain normal digestive function, support microbial balance, and contribute to gut environment stability. A well-supported microbiome also plays a key role in maintaining normal immune function and supporting gut barrier integrity.

Postbiotics (Agrimos)Non-living yeast-derived components that support gut health and microbial balance. Helps strengthen the gut barrier, bind to toxins for removal, contribute to a balanced hindgut pH, and provide antioxidant support within the gut environment.

Sources of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae yeast:

  • S. boulardii CNCM I-1079 – is an active live yeast culture that is microencapsulated. This yeast helps create a positive balance of microflora, which in turn helps tighten the junction between the villi that line and protect the gut barrier and help to prevent leaky gut.
  • S. cerevisiae CNCM I-1077 – another active live yeast culture strain that is microencapsulated. This yeast helps support a diverse gut microbiota and proper digestive PH. Helps support the gut microbiota during traveling and in higher starch diets. This helps to ensure a healthier hindgut.
  • Agrimos (yeast cell wall from saccharomyces cerevisiae) – Non-living yeast that provides consistent levels of MOS and Beta-Glucans. It has binding properties to help block villi attachment and development of potential gut pathogens, recognized as the crowding effect. Helps maintain consistent microflora in the gut.
    • Beta-Glucans – A type of dietary fiber found in cell walls of bacteria, fungi, yeast,
seaweed and cereal grains like wheat & barley. Enhances the body’s immune system
by acting as an immune modulator (regulates immune cell activity or signaling
pathways and helps balance immune response). Simply put they help calm an
overactive immune system (overactive immune response) or stimulate an
      underactive immune response.
    • Mannans (parent to mannan oligosaccharides/MOS) – Mannans are converted to
MOS when these long chain polysaccharides are converted in the gut. They help
bind pathogens like E. Coli and Salmonella, as these pathogens bind to the MOS
instead of attaching to the intestinal wall and are effective at binding mycotoxins.
MOS can be fermented in the hindgut to help support healthy microbial balance
and are known to be an immune modulator and known to help regulate the body’s
      immune-inflammatory response in the gut.

What is Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Boulardii?

MVP:  an active live yeast culture that is microencapsulated. This yeast helps create a positive balance of microflora, which in turn helps tighten the junction between the villi that line and protect the gut barrier.  Helps improve overall feed efficiency and nutrient absorption (especially for horses on higher starch diets).

What is the difference between Bio-Shield 50 and Gastro-Plex, which should I feed?

MVP:

Bio-Shield 50B is designed as a daily microbiome support supplement, combining prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics to help maintain gut health, immune function, and digestive consistency.

It’s a cost-effective, high-impact add-on to any MVP product, even formulas that already contain probiotics or yeast cultures, providing an additional layer of daily microbial support for performance horses under stress, travel, or competition demands.

Gastro-Plex is designed for horses that need more targeted stomach support, whether they’re more sensitive, under stress, or have a history of gastric upset. It includes probiotic strains and yeast to help stabilize and nourish the hindgut microbiome, along with a proprietary herbal blend formulated to help soothe and maintain stomach lining integrity. Added glutamine supports gut tissue repair, while mannanoligosaccharides (MOS) help reinforce gut integrity and immune function, making it an ideal choice during times of stress, travel, training, or dietary change.
