Psyllium is made from the husk of seeds of the shrub-like herb called plantago ovata. Psyllium is a high-fiber dietary additive commonly fed to horses to help expel sand from the digestive system which may aid in the prevention of colic, impaction, diarrhea and other problems associated with a build-up of sand in the colon. Second, it falls in the category of "prebiotic," meaning it serves as a source of food for the beneficial bacteria that live in the colon.

Probiotics are live microorganisms (bacteria and yeast) that help promote healthy digestive function and support a healthy immune system. Often referred to as ‘good bugs’ they help break down ingredients/contents that the body normally can't, and help inhibit ‘bad bugs’ from growing.

How does Sand Free compare to other Psyllium supplements in the market?

MVP:  Sand Free has 99% Psyllium seed/husk, but also adds 1 billion CFU's of Probiotics to help maintain a healthy gut flora which in turn supports digestion, utilization of nutrients and feed stuffs.

    Sand Free...

Posted by Rachel Britton on 15th Jul 2024

I love these pellets for my horses. We live in a very sandy area so this is an important part of our husbandry. My minis love the pellets and don't notice when they are in their feed. My horses are a little picky but do eventually eat them.

    The horses love the flavor!

Unlike better-known psyllium pellet brands, my horses love the flavor of MVP’s sand-clearer so it’s easy to to get them to eat it.

    This is an excellent product

Posted by John on 10th May 2018

This is an excellent product! The only psyllium product I will use. The probiotics included in the pellets is a big plus to me. I have a gelding that has sand digestion issues before but after starting Sand-Free two years ago, he has been great. Easy to use. Just add to their grain ration, and the horses like the taste. What could be better?
